SIMA's Appeal To The State Government

The Southern India Mills’ Association has appealed to the State Government to implement the diesel oil captive generation model as recommended by the Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission (TNERC). In a release here, the association chairman K.V. Srinivasan said that a uniform power cut of 20 per cent to 25 per cent in the State would be ideal.

Further, the diesel oil captive generation model would help tide over the power crisis in the State. With the current power restrictions, the textile industry was able to achieve only 40 per cent capacity utilisation, which would hurt the industry. Mr. Srinivasan said the order by the commission related to utilisation of banked wind energy generated between April 1 and October 31 in five equal monthly instalments between December 1, 2008 and April 30, 2009 by enhancing the demand and energy quota proportionately would be a major relief to the industry. The textile sector in the State had installed about 3,000 MW of wind mills.
