Students Bodies Fished Out

The bodies of the two students who went missing on Saturday evening were fished out from the Walayar dam at 11 am on Sunday morning. The deceased are Kamala Kannan, 18, son of Shanmughan, Sundarapuram, in Coimbatore and Kannan, 18, son of Soundararajan, a resident near Town hall in Coimbatore. While Kamala Kannan was a first year BSc computer science student at the Nehru College, Coimbatore, Kannan was a first year BSc computer science student at the Karpakam College, Coimbatore.

Police said that six students had come from the colleges in Coimbatore to the Walayar dam on Saturday. While four of them, Vignesh, Babu, Saravanan and Umesh, stood near the banks, Kamala Kannan and Kannan entered the waters to bath. Though a search was initiated by the fire force personnel for the deceased on Saturday itself, it was called-off late in the evening due to bad light. The bodies were brought to the district hospital here and after post mortem, were handed over to their relatives.
