Unauthorised Constructions In Coimbatore Will Be Listed In Corp's Website
As many as 464 buildings had been identified as unsafe and parking space was encroached by unauthorised structures in many others. “These structures can be removed,” he said. Mr. Mishra said the Corporation would put the list of buildings on its website to make people know of the rules and desist from violations. Mr. Mishra indicated of sustained action when presspersons pointed out that so far it had not gone beyond a couple of demolitions when the number of unauthorised structures was high.
As for more such structures coming up, he said buildings under construction would be watched by town planning officials for any violation. The Corporation was taking a serious view of shops taking up the space marked for parking in approved building plans. “If all the buildings have parking space, half the parking problem on our roads will be solved,” he said. When pointed out that the system adopted by the Corporation had an inherent flaw of levying penalty on 100 per cent unauthorised constructions, the Commissioner said these could be demolished.
There was no point in treating these as 100 per cent deviation, when the buildings were totally unauthorised. So, these could be demolished. The Commissioner said the civic body would check whether all apartments had enough parking space for the vehicles of the residents. As for the roads getting congested because of the visitors being forced to park their vehicles outside, the Corporation Commissioner said this problem would also be looked into.
