TVS Dubbed The Govt Announcement
The Tamilaga Vivasayigal Sangham has dubbed the announcement of Rs.1,220 as the minimum procurement price for sugar cane as disappointing. Reacting to the announcement in the Governor’s address in the Assembly, president M.R. Sivasamy said that given the cultivation cost, a price of Rs.2,000 alone would be viable. Until the price was raised, the growers would continue their agitation. After the farmers launched the agitation by stopping cane cutting in December, the Bannariamman and Sakthi Sugar Mills were giving Rs.1,270. With the government now increasing the price by Rs.170, Mr. Sivasamy demanded that the two mills give Rs.1,440.
