8 Sand Trucks seized !

The Coimbatore Rural Police and revenue officials have seized a total of eight trucks transporting sand to Kerala without permits and arrested 12 persons in this connection.

Following information about transportation of sand to Kerala without valid permits, the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Coimbatore Range, M. Ramasubramani and Superintendent of Police, Coimbatore Rural District, N. Kannan ordered for conducting vehicle checks on all arterial and feeder roads linking Coimbatore district with Kerala.

On Tuesday morning, police personnel from Vadakkipalayam in Pollachi sub-division conducted vehicle checks on Sulakkal – Vadakkukadu road and intercepted four sand-laden trucks being transported from Tamil Nadu towards Kerala. The police also arrested drivers namely Ravi (38), Periasamy (40), Murugesan (34), Duraisamy (40), Kadirvelu (42) all from Namakkal and Nandagopal (21) of Cuddalore. The police also arrested Karthikeyan (21) of Cuddalore, Nataraj (50), Gireesh (27) of Coimbatore and Haneefa (32) of Kozhinjamparai in Palakkad who was piloting the convoy of sand laden trucks.

In another vehicle check, Veerappa Goundanur police intercepted a truck and arrested Gopalakrishnan (34) driver and cleaner Karthik (19) of Karur district for transporting sand towards Kerala without valid permit. Similarly, a team led by Pollachi Tahsildar conducted a check at Zamin Kaliapuram and intercepted three sand-laden trucks. The drivers fled from the scene on seeing the official team.
