The road roko staged by voters of Perichipalayam and heated arguments at various booths in Tirupur Lok Sabha constituency on Wednesday after poll officials refused to accept family card as a photo document for casting votes marred election in Tirupur. Across the constituency, thousands of electors who had come to the polling stations considering family cards as a ‘valid document’ were returned by election officials stating that the ration card was not listed among the 13 substitute documents for electors’ photo identity card (EPIC).
Following this, a group of voters staged a road blockade at Perichipalayam citing reports that appeared in some vernacular dailies over the last few days that ration cards were valid photo documents. However, poll proceedings were not disrupted.
