surprise check at Inspectorate of Labour

A surprise check by the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption police at the office of the Inspectorate of Labour on Dr. Balasundaram Road in the city on Monday led to the seizure of Rs. 30,000 allegedly accepted as bribe by an Assistant Inspector of Labour.

Apart from this amount, a team led by vigilance Inspector C. Dakshinamurthy and Inspector in the District Inspection Cell at the Collectorate R. Harikrishnan also seized unaccounted cash totalling Rs. 12,650.

Mr. Dakshinamurthy said the surprise check was carried out on an information received in the evening that the labour official had sought a bribe of Rs. 30,000 for issuing a certificate on an inspection conducted last month at an ayurvedic centre at Ganapathy in the city and also to waive a penalty imposed on it.
