Coimbatore Spotted In Fire Safety Audit
The fire and rescue department on Wednesday started a fire safety audit in the state, ahead of the festival season. Department officials visited major malls and shopping areas and took stock of fire safety standards. “We are inspecting fire safety facilities installed in shopping malls in busy areas. This is a preventive act and we are taking the store owners during the audit,” R Natraj, director, fire and rescue services, said.
The officials will conduct checks in shopping malls in 10 areas, including T Nagar, Purasawalkam, Parrys, Mylapore, Adyar and Anna Nagar. The audit is also being conducted in Coimbatore, Madurai, Salem and Tiruchi. Fire safety standards make it mandatory for shopping malls to have fire extinguishers, fire exits and other preventive mechanisms, including safety electrical wiring.
