According to Umashankar, all the ground works were getting completed and ELCOT would be taking up common infrastructure works in the proposed site such as internal roads, access roads, drainages and power stations shortly. The first of the part-by-part report of the architect is expected in another two weeks.
Simultaneously, once the land is handed over, Wipro, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Tidel would start construction. Wipro and TCS have been allotted 10 and five acres respectively.
The Central Government’s Customs Clearance for the SEZ is anticipated by January 5. Moreover, sources said the process is underway for acquiring another 30 acres of land adjacent to the site.
A recent report had quoted Umashankar as saying that the Corporation was ready to acquire even 1,000 to 2,000 acres, as there was much demand in Coimbatore.
ELCOT had billed 2007 as the year of tier II cities, with Coimbatore being one of the seven cities identified by the Corporation to promote as IT investment destinations during 2007.
