Revamping of the Siruvani water supply scheme and the Pilloor Phase I scheme are on the cards. This includes replacing the old and worn out lines of the Siruvani scheme. One of the lines burst at Telungupalayam in the city on Wednesday night. After Mayor R. Ventachalam, Corporation Commissioner P. Muthuveeran and Deputy Mayor N. Karthik visited the spot, officials said that the repair works would be completed by Thursday night.
Streamline
The burst drew the attention of the Coimbatore Corporation to the urgent need for replacing old lines. The civic body said that it had already planned to replace old lines and streamline the existing schemes also under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission.
The revamping was aimed at eliminating any possibility of disruption caused by pipeline bursts, especially in view of the Corporation planning round-the-clock supply of drinking water.
Interlinking of the Siruvani and Pilloor lines, including those of the Phase II scheme, would be done as part of the efforts for 24-hour supply. As many as 27 tanks would also be built to store water supplied by the Phase II scheme.
As for storage in the Siruvani Dam, the Coimbatore Corporation said it had dipped 11 ft below the full reservoir level of 67.44 ft.
Officials said the storage could last up to August.
And, the South-West Monsoon normally arrived in early June to raise the storage.
