Revived NTC mills go for trial operation
The dream of National Textile Corporation (NTC) to export yarn and cloth to European and American markets from its ailing units has finally taken flight with two of its export-oriented mills undertaking trial run on the newly-installed machines. Gujarat’s only mill shortlisted for modernisation, the Ahmedabad-based Rajnagar Textile Mills number 1, will begin commissioning of new equipment shortly.
Of the 22 mills that will undergo Rs 530-crore modernisation, trial run has begun in the Coimbatore Murugan Mills (CMM) and the Alagappa Textile Mills (ATM) and soon, the units could vie for export orders, chairman and managing director of NTC K Rameshchandran Pillai told ET.
NTC will pump in Rs 1,529.12 lakh for modernisation of ATM, while Rs 1,162.98 lakh will be invested for modernising CMM, said KP Jayachandran, general manager (modernisation), NTC. The trail running of ring frames purchased from M/s CTMTC, China in CMM and ATM have been done. “While two machines in CMM have already started producing yarns, ATM will begin production in a week’s time and soon, we could expect orders from European market for high-end products,” Jayachandran said.
