Additional semi-deluxe bus services to Ooty
Additional bus services to OotyCoimbatore: The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation, Division 1, Coimbatore, has introduced additional semi-deluxe bus services to Udhagamandalam from Coimbatore and Mettupalayam. Sources in the Corporation said that six services from Mettupalayam and five from Coimbatore have been introduced recently following instructions from the Transport Minister, K.N. Nehru.
Some of the services were additional while a few of them were replacement of the existing one. There would be a service for every 20 minutes to Udhagamandalam from Coimbatore and Mettupalayam catering to the increasing passenger traffic on this section. The object was to ensure that the waiting time for passengers be reduced and dispense the queue system. These semi-deluxe services would be operated as Limited Stop Services with additional facilities such as television and cell phone chargers.
During the ensuing season, the Corporation has made arrangements for operation of additional buses as special services depending on the rush. Depending on the number of persons waiting for buses, additional service would be operated to clear the rush, the officials said. To provide uninterrupted public transportation system in Coimbatore, the Corporation was also planning to identify the town bus routes that required night services at regular intervals.
Hitherto, there had been complaints about buses returning to the depots as early as 10 p.m., leaving commuters at the mercy of private transport facilities. Within a month, all arterial roads would have night services at regular intervals, the officials said.
Service to Tirupur, Pollachi
Similarly, efforts are being taken to introduce night bus services to Mettupalayam, Tirupur and Pollachi from Coimbatore at the frequency of one hour between every service.
