Coimbatore Student Got `Young Innovator' award
Coimbatore: S. Shanmugam, a third year student of the Department of Weaving from the S.S.M. Institute of Textile Technology and Polytechnic College, Komarapalayam, has received the `Young Innovator' award from the hands of the President of India, A. P. J. Abdul Kalam.Competition
The award, that was instituted by the National Innovation Foundation, was handed over to Mr. Shanmugam for his innovation "Converting Handloom into Rapier Loom" that was submitted at the Fourth Biennial competition.
Knowledge
The citation said that the innovation had been chosen under the category for grassroots unaided technological innovations and outstanding traditional knowledge.
The award that included a certificate and a purse of Rs. 25,000, was given away at a function held at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi, recently.
