IT sector needs more CAs

With a huge demand for cost accountants in IT, ITES and manufacturing sectors, the Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India (ICWAI) is redoing its syllabus to catch up with these sectors, D L S Sreshti, Chairman, south India regional council of ICWAI, said. The institute would introduce two to three courses, including one to cater to the needs of BPO and IT sector, from the coming academic year, Sreshti told reporters at Coimbatore.

Stating that there was a huge demand for CAs in the booming IT and manufacturing sector, which could not be met by ICWAI, he asked the younger generation to tap opportunities in India and also in Dubai, Nepal, Botswana and Zambia, which could fetch them salaries similar to the IT sector.

Shreshti said southern regional council was organising a two-day regional cost convention here from tomorrow on the theme 'Enterprise excellence-enhancing value through management accounting'.

The seminar would be of immense help to industry, especially to SMEs, who are under constant pressure to reduce costs, J Sridhar, chairman of the convention committee, said. The seminar would also focus on how IT can be leveraged to attain the goals of cost managements, he said, adding that S Mahalingam, CFO of TCS, would deliver the keynote address.
