Rs.3000 as pension for freedom fighters

TN Government urged to provide Rs.3000 as pension

Coimbatore:The Coimbatore District Freedom Fighters' Association asked the Tamil Nadu Government to give Rs.3,000 as pension to freedom fighters, instead of the present Rs.515. It was a total injustice to those, who fought for the country's freedom and the Government should immediately announce Rs.3000 as pension, the Association General Secretary V.Girikrishnan told reporters here.

Girikrishnan discounted Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's claim in the State Assembly that Rs.3,000 was being given as pension to freedom fighters in the State. He also demanded that the Government increase the pension amount of Rs.3000 to Rs.7,000 immediately. Since the State Government failed to construct housing colonies, on the lines of 'Samathuvapuram,' despite repeated pleas by the freedom fighters, the Centre should immediately take steps to provide houses to freedom fighters, he said.

Seeking employment to the kin of freedom fighters, based on their educational qualification and without any age limit, Girikrishnan also sought a pension to the heirs of freedom fighters, as was being extended to the families of Kattabomman, a chieftain who was hanged by Britishers.
