Tax collection machine soon in Coimbatore
Coimbatore: Payment of tax to the Coimbatore Corporation will no longer be an ordeal, thanks to the Corporation's decision to go in for cash-cum-cheque deposit machine.The machine from Info Power costing around Rs. 2.5 lakh to Rs. 2.7 lakh is loaded with a software that will accept tax remittances and instantly issue auto-generated receipts containing all payment details under the head Coimbatore Corporation. The dry run and familiarisation classes for the staff are being conducted under the supervision of Mayor R. Venkatachalam and Corporation Commissioner P. Muthuveeran. The machine is likely to be inaugurated very shortly, the Corporation officials said.
The officials said payments could be made by cash and cheque. Even debit or credit cards could be swiped in these machines. The Corporation has gone in for five machines i.e., one for the main office and four for the south, west, north and east zones in the first phase. The Corporation has plans to instal the machine in all its tax collection centres. The linking of the Corporation software will ensure accuracy besides immediate updating of payment details.The machine will accept currencies in the denominations of Rs. 500, 100, 50, 20, 10 and 5 besides one rupee and five rupee coins. It will accept cheques with Magnetic Ink Character Recognition and issue receipts instantly with all details.
To begin with all tax collections such as property tax, water tax, professional tax and licence fee will be collected through these machines.In future lease and rentals will be accepted.This system would eliminate long queues at the tax collection counters, the officials said.The machine is equipped with a biometric software lock that will warrant fingerprints of two top-level officers in each zone for opening the machine as an added security feature.
