Agri. biotechnology workshop for Journalists
The Ministry of Environment and Forest, International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-Biotech Applications and Tamil Nadu Agricultural University will jointly organise a bilingual media workshop on agricultural biotechnology on April 16 and 17. Science and agricultural reporters and journalists from the print and electronic media in Tamil Nadu will attend the workshop.The objective of the workshop is to impart knowledge on basic scientific principles of biotechnology, current status and future prospects of agricultural biotechnology, regulations related to safety assessment and risk management, socio-economic-environmental impacts and role of the media. The workshop aims to strengthen the scientific understanding of journalists to help them report issues related to agricultural biotechnology.The topics that will be covered will be, the science of biotechnology, the role of the Government and the regulatory framework, commercialisation of agri-biotech products, what the farmers and civil society feel about biotechnology, and the media and the message.
