BU's skill training to economically backward candidates
The Bharathiar University (BU) will soon complete the setting up of eight ‘finishing schools’ for extending skill training to economically backward candidates and help them get placements in major corporates."Intensive training will be given to the students. Our objective is that when they come out of the training, they should be competent enough," said G Thiruvasagam, Vice- Chancellor of the university, during a press briefing here on Tuesday.
Four colleges in Erode and Pollachi have already agreed to act as finishing schools for the university. They include Kongu Arts and Science College and Vellalar College for Women in Erode and NGM College and Sree Saraswathi Thyagaraja College in Pollachi. Four colleges have also been proposed as centres in Coimbatore, which are yet to be identified. The training, which would cover various disciplines, including Spoken English and personality development, would be given in two phases for 30 days at the end of the V semester. It would be a residential training programme and the students would be accommodated at the centres itself, free of cost.Separate training would be provided for boys and girls.
However, the students might have to pay a minimum amount to bear the food and resource material expenses, which would not exceed Rs 500.To begin with, the varsity has restricted the entry to 20 students per college. The selection will be based on merit and the economic status of the students."The aim is to train rural and economically weaker students," the VC said and added that resource persons for training would come from top companies that visited the varsity for holding campus interviews.
