Infra facilities should be improved
Udhagamandalam: Infrastructure facilities in this hill station should be improved on a war footing, said the Nilgiris MP R. Prabhu here on Monday. Speaking to media persons, he said that ways to popularise the vacation destination should be evolved.Stating that joint efforts should be made by the Central and State Governments to promote tourism here, he said that the Union Minister for Tourism Ambika Soni is likely to visit the Nilgiris soon.
To a question, Mr. Prabhu said that operators of chopper services would come here only if they were sure of recovering their investment and making profit on a sustained basis. Adverting to the bad condition of the Marappalam-Gudalur stretch of the National Highway, he said that he had spoken to the Union Minister for Surface Transport T.R. Baalu and also asked the contractors to complete the temporary repairs as early as possible because the season has entered its busy period. With the quality of the Nilgiri tea having improved considerably, thanks to the efforts of the Tea Board, its image in places like New Delhi has also improved. With the help of the Commerce ministry the Nilgiri tea has started making inroads in hitherto untapped markets including Pakistan and Egypt.
