Summer adventure camps

The Mountaineering and Adventure Sports Society is organising fun-filled summer camps from April 16 to May 8 for children of the age group 10 to 18.There will be seven such camps of three-day duration each. The summer camp would be held at Udumalpet.The maximum number of participants is 30, a release from L. Fredrick, Mountaineering Instructor of the society here has said.This year the camp activities included rock climbing, rappelling, river crossing techniques, obstacles, pioneering, team work, group living, knots practice, basic first aids, basic rescue and survival techniques, cave stay, rope climbing and cross country running. The camp would provide an action packed learning experience where the students would get first hand knowledge and experience of action and adventure.In addition, there would be two Himalayan trekking expeditions.The first expedition would be a trek to the Deo Tibba Base Camp 4570 m or Kunzum pass 4520 m above the mean sea level in Himachal Pradesh. This would be held from May 14 to June 1. Only 25 participants above 14 years were eligible to participate. The second expedition would be a 22-day trekking camp at the Mt. Everest Base camp - 5370 m and Mt.Kalapathar 5545 m in Nepal. This would be held from June 5 to June 25 and would be limited to 15 people in the age group of 14 years.
