RAAC'ing action !
Residents of a group of layouts at Kavundampalayam on the city's northern border teamed up with the Residents Awareness Association of Coimbatore (RAAC) to remove garbage and shrubs in their area on Sunday. This was done as part of the association's project, Alagana Kovai, which had already covered about 30 layouts, the organisation claimed in a press release.The layouts in Kavundampalayam recently formed an association called Rassi Band to campaign for civic amenities. Apart from demanding the amenities, it also decided to involve in keeping the layouts free of garbage by joining the Alagana Kovai movement. The cleaning programme was launched by the Chairman of the Kavundampalayam Municipality, K.M. Sundaram and the Ward 3 councillor, K.S. Maheswaran. RAAC vice-president G. Soundararajan took part in the programme that also included planting of saplings along roads.
The release said this programme was being carried out in any chosen locality every third week of a month. There was active participation of residents, including college students, took part, it said. Problems arising out of poor garbage removal were explained to the residents. They were also told of the measures that helped in maintaining clean environs.
