Early Intervention for Children with Disabilities
The Department of Special Education of Avinashilingam University proposes to provide early intervention services for children till the age of six.Children with low birth weight, delayed milestones, behavioural and attention problems need timely intervention, says Premavathy Vjayan, Professor and Head of the Department.It also includes special programmes for the parents, short-term workshops and other training programmes, which will enable the faculty to identify children with developmental problems. The University offers a five-year integrated programme in Special Education and Rehabilitation at the graduation and postgraduation level.The Department has received sanction from the University Grants Commission for a research project on `Early Intervention for Children with Disabilities.'
