In 2020 Indians will occupy 25% of the global jobs
India is blessed with a large youth population. By 2020, Indians will occupy 25 per cent of the global jobs in the science and technology sector, T. Ramasami, Secretary, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, said here recently.Addressing the fourth convocation of the Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, he said education was a process through which one shut out ignorance and revealed perfection to oneself."One should strive to learn more. As we learn more, we will realise how less we know".Tracing the history of education in India, Mr. Ramasami said that the Gurukul system had many advantages over the McCaulay system. Any phenomenon that was taught to the students was looked at in a holistic form. The intertwining social system prepared the students not for a living, but for life.
He urged the youth to develop character in addition to competence. For overall development of an individual, learning should be converted into knowledge, and knowledge into wisdom, he said. "The country has a lot of wisdom to offer. Youth should imbibe it. The world is embracing India today. There are a great number of opportunities available. Indians are in a very advantageous position today. Learn to fly high like an eagle", he said.Nearly 1,300 candidates received their degree certificates at the ceremony. Swami Amritaswarupananda Puri, President of the Vidyapeetham, presided and administered the oath. Vice-Chancellor P. Venkat Rangan, and Chief Operating Officer Brahmachari Abhayamrita Chaitanya spoke.
