Staff's long pending demands fulfilled by BU

A long-pending demand of non-teaching staff, with regard to promotions, has been fulfilled by the administration with the support of the Syndicate. This should be seen as a positive measure by them to work in a better way for all-round development and towards reaching the goals of the university, G. Thiruvasagam, Vice-Chancellor of Bharathiar University, said here recently.He was responding to the felicitations offered to him and the Syndicate members by the office-bearers of the Bharathiar University Non-Teaching Staff Association, for promoting 115 staffers, a majority of whom were non-teaching staff.

The Vice-Chancellor thanked all those who had been instrumental in making the promotions, which had been stuck due to several cases pending before the Madras High Court come through. Various sections of employees and the association were made to withdraw cases filed in courts to enable the staff get their promotions."I am happy that the desire of the employees was fulfilled and justice rendered to them. In turn, they have to put in extra efforts to clear the backlog of assignments. I also appeal to them to work with vigour to prepare the university face the re-accreditation of National Assessment and Accreditation Council that is due in 2008, to enable us to get the best ranking," Prof. Thiruvasagam said.

"There are some other demands pending with respect to promotions, additional manpower and enhancing the work culture. These too will be looked into shortly and resolved," he said.N. Palanisamy, president of the association, expressed hope that the 115 promotions would pave way for further promotions.A. Thangavelu, vice-president of Bharathiar University Non-Teaching Staff Association, and V. Subramanian, treasurer of the association, also spoke.
