Traffic came to a halt for nearly one hour at Ukkadam in the city, following a protest by the residents and members of the public on the overspeeding of transport buses, resulting in frequent accidents in the area.According to police, a private bus coming from Pollachi hit three moped riders this morning, resulting in bleeding injuries to four persons, including a girl.Enraged over the rash and negligent driving, the public and shopkeepers in the area pulled down the bus driver and beat him up.

All the five persons, including the driver, were admitted to the government hospital, police said.
As a large number of people started gathering at the spot, particularly near the automatic signals, traffic was paralysed from both sides for nearly one hour, police said.Senior district and police officials rushed to the spot and assured the people that steps would be taken to prevent recurrence of such incidents, after which the public dispersed.
