Coimbatore recorded the highest credit achievement
Coimbatore District Collector Neeraj Mittal addressing the members of the District Consultative Committee of bankers on Wednesday.Coimbatore District has recorded the highest credit achievement in the State, the District Collector, Neeraj Mittal, said on Wednesday.Addressing a meeting of the District Lead Bank at the Collectorate, Dr. Mittal said that the overall performance of banks and Government departments in implementing various programmes during 2006-07 was very good. As against the target of of Rs. 5090.25 crore under the Annual Credit Plan (ACP) for 2006-07, the achievement was Rs. 5166.01 crore with 101 per cent achievement. The achievement under agriculture and SSI sectors was also 101 per cent and under other priority sector it was 105 per cent. As on March 31, 2007, the Credit Deposit Ratio (crucial indicator for the performance of banks) in the district was 162 per cent, the highest in the State, and had improved from 152 per cent of March 31, 2006.
Prime Minister’s Rozgar Yojana (PMRY) was one of the thrust programmes of Government of India and State Government. As against the target of 1,845, the achievement (under sanction) was 1,847. Keeping in view the last date for disbursement as June 30, 2007, the administration was confident of achieving 100 per cent. In terms of loan amount sanctioned it was Rs. 11 crore. During 2006-07 with the efforts of Mahalir Thittam, NGOs and Banks 254 groups have been credit linked under direct linkage during the last fiscal.
The National Bank for Agricultural and Rural Development (NABARD) had identified Karamadai block under the Integrated Development of Backward Blocks. The scheme would facilitate convergence of all Government schemes to the block with a special focus on development.Further, the NABARD would also be preparing a village development plan for five villages of the district to be implemented through NGO. The ACP for 2007-08 was launched on March 27 envisaging a credit plan of Rs. 6046.85 crore. This is the highest credit potential in the entire State. Canara Bank and State Bank of India share the highest credit target of 21 per cent each.The credit projection made for Agriculture and allied activities for 2007-08 was Rs.1608.15 crore, Small Scale Industries Rs. 3518.33 crore and Other Priority Sector was Rs. 920.37 crore. During the current fiscal, the target under PMRY was to disburse loans to 1,945 persons. Similarly under TADHCO the ACP would support 5,877 persons with a financial assistance of Rs.398.92 lakh.
To ensure total financial inclusion, the Committee has decided to start a campaign on One Account per house hold by enabling people to open no frill account with a minimum remittance of Rs. 25 or 50.The campaign would be from July 2 to 31.
