Drive against violation of rules
The Transport Department officials have registered 142 cases during a drive against violation of rules by omni buses during the week-end in Coimbatore, Erode and the Nilgiris districts.The Deputy Transport Commissioner, Coimbatore Circle, T. Gunasekaran, said that following instructions from the Transport Minister and the Transport Commissioner, checks were conducted at nine places in all the three districts for two days both in the morning and night.A total of 304 buses were checked and 142 cases were registered.
Two cases of overloading of passengers, one case of bus without insurance cover, one case of driver without a valid driving licence, 25 cases of omni buses being used as parcel service by entertaining unaccompanied luggage and 32 cases of other motor vehicle rule violations were detected.The drive also resulted in collection of Rs. 2,14,868 as fine and Rs. 53,200 as compounding fee, he added.
