GO for allotment of advance/fancy registration number

The State Government has issued a draft notification for a Government Order for revising the fee for allotment of advance/fancy registration number for new motor vehicles.The GO issued by the Home (Transport) Department said that as per rule 91 (2) of the Tamil Nadu Motor Vehicle Rules 1989, the Government could reserve any registration number as they consider necessary to be assigned to the Government vehicle or that of any private person.

Hitherto, the fee charged for allotment of such advance/fancy numbers was Rs. 15,000 (for the first four series) and Rs. 20,000 for the 5th series and beyond.Now, the Government has proposed to revise the fee as follows: for the first four series including the current running series the fee would be Rs. 20,000; for numbers in the fifth series to eighth series it would be Rs. 30,000; for the ninth and tenth series the fee would be Rs. 50,000; and the fee for 11th and 12th series would be Rs. 1 lakh.

Objections or suggestions if any, the public could send the same in two copies to the Secretary to Government, Home (Transport) Department, Secretariat, Chennai 600 009 before June 14.The objections or suggestions would be taken into consideration issuing order on the draft notification.
