2 year imprisonment for rash driving
The City Police Commissioner, C.K. Gandhirajan has appealed to motorists to avoid rash and negligent driving on the roads and has pointed out that 120 persons have lost their lives in accidents till date during the year 2007.The increasing vehicular population has resulted in congestion and during the year 2006 the number of lives lost in accidents was 213.The city police have initiated a number of measures to reduce accidents.The latest measure was to mark the accident spots in yellow circle with the letters 304 (A) of Indian Penal Code (IPC).This was being done in order to remind the motorists that a life was lost at this particular spot due to rash and negligent driving.It was also to make motorists avoid such unsafe driving/riding habits.Any person being charged with 304 A of IPC for rash and negligent driving was liable for two years imprisonment or fine or both, Mr.Gandhirajan said.
