New eco-friendly collage soon in Coimbatore

A new college – AJK College of Arts and Science, which promises to be an eco-friendly campus– is soon to be launched near here. It will initially admit 190 students in four courses, Ajeet Kumar Lal Mohan, Secretary of the college, told presspersons here on Monday.The college, which would be affiliated to the Bharathiar University, would operate under the aegis of the AJK Educational and Charitable Trust. “There will be no notice boards. Every floor will have an LCD panel to flash notices,” he said.

Mr. Ajeet said that the college would have a fully air-conditioned library with the latest editions and journals. The classrooms would be provided with wireless networking and they would be monitored electronically to ensure that students were making good use of their time.The college would be offering undergraduate programmes in Hotel Management , Information Technology, Computer Science, and Computer Applications.


“The aim of this college is to provide quality education at an affordable cost. We have started with four courses that are career-focussed and currently in demand,” said Mr. Ajeet Kumar.The college is located 20 km from the city at Navakkarai on Palakkad Main Road. The catering department would have “island cooking ranges” and each student would have his own work station complete with a baking unit, salamander, spoons and other equipment. The students would also be offered an advanced culinary diploma from a foreign university.Admissions are now in progress with applications being issued on the college premises and in centres in Coimbatore and Palakkad. The college would be formally inaugurated by the second week of July, the Secretary said.
