A woman appears for the fitness test during a recruitment drive for the post of police constable in Coimbatore on Wednesday.Recruitment drive for women police constables commenced at the Police Recruit School Grounds on Avanashi Road on Wednesday. As many as 1,095 candidates from Coimbatore City and Coimbatore Rural District appeared for the physical endurance tests and certificate verification.
In the physical endurance test, a number of candidates fainted while doing the 400-m running test. The police personnel on recruitment duty removed them from the track.On June 14, 1,081 candidates from Erode and the Nilgiris district will appear for the test. Inspector-General of Police, West Zone, K. Rajendran, DIG of Police, Coimbatore Range, M.N. Manjunatha and the Superintendent of Police, Coimbatore Rural District,A.T. Duraikumar supervised the selection process and more than 150 police personnel were involved in the drive. On June 15 and 16, the short listed candidates would appear for the shot put, long jump and 200 m running.All those passing the second round of tests would have to appear for the written examinations on June 29, the officials said.
