Intel is working with Original Equipment Manufacturers for the launch of ‘Classmate Personal Computers,’ B. Suryanarayanan, Director (South), Sales and Marketing Group, Intel South Asia, told reporters here on Wednesday. The computers, expected to cost between Rs. 10,000 and Rs. 12,000, were specifically targeted at the education segment, one of the key focus areas of the company, he added.
The basic idea was to help emerging economies in adopting technology.Intel was concentrating on smaller cities such as Coimbatore, which had plenty of small and medium businesses. One of the themes of the channel conference organised at Coimbatore was to enable smaller cities to understand technology faster and learn how to employ it. “Our opportunities for growth are in the small and medium business sector and education,” he said. In collaboration with the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan programme, it has given professional development training for Government school teachers on the effective use of technology in the teaching process.
