Subway on Marudhamalai Road
Highways is laying a diversion road in front of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University for construction of a subway.State Highways Department has commenced construction of a subway near Tamil Nadu Agriculture University (TNAU) on Marudhamalai Road at an estimated outlay of Rs. 37 lakh. TNAU would fund it while the Highways Department would be executing agency.Besides the cost of Rs. 37 lakh, TNAU had deposited Rs. 66 lakh with the Highways Department for shifting electric poles and for constructing a diversion route. The authorities plan to complete the subway by the year-end and until then the traffic would be diverted on the diversion route being laid cutting across the TNAU premises.
The sub-way would provide both vehicular and pedestrian connectivity to the gardens, trial fields and hostel on one side of the road with the main building of the university on the other side.The speed breaker in front of the university was creating inconvenience to the motorists.So the University had come up with the idea of subway which the State Highways had agreed to execute at the cost of TNAU.
