Vairamuthu @ Kotagiri
Udhagamandalam: Hundreds of people from various walks of life attended a function organised under the aegis of the literary society `Ponmalai Pozhuthu' to felicitate well known poet Vairamuthu at Kotagiri on Sunday.In his address Mr.Vairamuthu underscored the need to protect the environment of Kotagiri. Describing the hill station as one of the best spots in the state, he said that use of plastics should be discouraged and afforestation programmes should be encouraged. Sanitation should be accorded high priority.
Adverting to the attributes of Tamil, he said that the language and things associated with it symbolised a culture. Pointing out that the culture of the Tamil society was held in high esteem in different parts of the World, he said that Tamilians should lead lives which were worthy of emulation by others. He exhorted parents to help their children set high goals.The Principal, Saint Jude's Public School, P. Dhanaraj presided. The Special Representative of the Tamil Nadu Government in Delhi Kambam P. Selvendhranwas the chief guest. The Trustee, Ponmalai Pozhuthu, J.Raju, welcomed the gathering.
