CII training SHG women

The Confederation of Indian Industry has started training women from Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in the district in basic business skills such as accounting and marketing.According to its chairman, K. Thangaraj, about 500 women will be trained this year in association with Mahalir Thittam, which will identify the beneficiaries.The confederation has tied up with some of its member colleges to conduct the programmes.

Recently, a batch of 25 women completed training in computer operation at Sri Ramakrishna Engineering College. The duration of these courses depend on the syllabus. The computer training was held for a week.The association has been conducting training for self-help group women in Computerised Numerically Controlled (CNC) machinery operation. This year, it plans to extend this activity to youth and also to more trades.In a couple of months, it hopes to start technical courses for youth and women. They will be trained for entry-level jobs in manufacturing units, apart from the ongoing CNC training programme. This course will also have placement facility for its beneficiaries. The confederation has already identified institutions that will offer the courses. Another 250 participants are expected for this.


According to Mr. Thangaraj, the confederation is committed towards improving the rural economy by strengthening the agricultural sector and through greater women empowerment.
“We feel that SHG women have very good entrepreneurial skills, which needs to be sharpened to make a business profitable.”The SHG movement not only makes its members self-sufficient but also contributes to economic growth, he adds.
