NABARD adpoted 5 villages
Five revenue villages at Karamadai block in Coimbatore district are bound to better themselves in parameters like economy, literacy rate and health index over a period of three years from now, says V Suresh, Assistant General Manager (District Development), National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD).Celebrating its Silver Jubilee, Nabard has adopted the five villages - Pungampalayam, Thimmampalayam Pudur, Thimmampalayam, Marudur and Kanuvaipalayam under its Village Development Plan.“We are preparing the plans. The project may take off by August 1,” he said.
While NABARD’s earlier scheme - Pilot Project for Integrated Development of Backward Block (PPID) - focussed on selected blocks, the Silver Jubilee plan focuses at the micro level.Under PPID, convergence of all the government schemes and their implementation is ensured in the chosen blocks. Under the Village Development Plan, credit and promotional support from various funds maintained by NABARD would be extended after assessing the needs of these villages.“For infrastructure development, we will impress upon the government to avail funds from the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF),” Suresh added. The bank has engaged Imayam Social Welfare Organisation in Coimbatore to implement this plan.Meanwhile, to commemorate its completion of 25 years of service to the nation, NABARD organised a one-day sensitisation programme for bankers here on July 17.
