Rain continues in Coimbatore

Rain continues to lash the Western Ghats resulting in substantial inflow into the catchments of the major reservoirs.There was a steady inflow into the Parambikulam – Aliyar Project reservoirs even on Tuesday.

According to reports reaching the district headquarters, following is the rainfall in mm received at various places at 8.30 a.m.: Airport - 6.10, Annur - 1, Avanashi - 2, Mettuppalayam - 4, Udumalpet - 5, Palladam - 2, Sulur - 5, Aliyar - 36.4, Peruvaripallam - 73, Pollachi - 30, Agriculture University - 15.60, Coimbatore South taluk - 7.10, Anaimalai - 92, Valparai PAP - 91, Valparai Taluk - 90, Sircarpathy - 28, Manakkadavu - 45, Kadamparai - 91, Thoonakkadavu - 63, Makkinampatti - 40, Navamalai - 17 and Amaravathy - 5.


The Siruvani Dam recorded only 70 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours. The storage stood at 54.28 ft as against the full storage level of 67.44 ft.The following is the water level in ft in the various PAP reservoirs (full storage level in brackets); Sholayar - 145.76 (160), Parambikulam - 25.37 (72), Aliyar - 82.50 (120), Thirumurthy - 18.20 (60), Amaravathy - 82.23 (90).Raman (57), a mill worker, was killed when a mud wall along his workplace collapsed on Tuesday evening.
