Siruvani dam water level risies
Heavy rain continued to pound the Siruvani Dam and its catchments on Monday, raising hopes of a surplus in a week.Mayor R. Venkatachalam said substantial inflow helped the water level in the dam rise by five ft since Sunday. The dam recorded 160 mm rain over 24 hours till 8 a.m. on Monday. The water level was almost 53 ft as against the full reservoir level of 67.44 ft.The level rose from 48 ft to 53 ft because of torrential rain and the heavy inflow through the falls.
“If the heavy rain continues, water will overflow in a week,” the Mayor said.Supply under the Pilloor scheme resumed on Monday afternoon after the line that burst on Sunday was replaced. Of the four motors that pumped water to the main service reservoir in the city, two were switched on in the afternoon and the two others later.Supply in the Coimbatore Corporation areas would begin early on Tuesday, he said.
