The District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) and the Women’s Studies Centre at the PSGR Krishnammal College held a workshop on administration for women panchayat presidents recently. A press release from the organisers said 45 women panchayat presidents participated.It was suggested at the workshop that the panchayats should be open from 10 a.m.to 4 p.m. every day so that development works could be carried out without delay. Project Officer of DRDA, D. Murugan spoke on various schemes for the rural areas. The workshop also had sessions on waste management, pollution prevention and women’s role in keeping the environs clean.
