AU will follow trimester system for MBA
The School of Management Studies of the Anna University (AU), Coimbatore will follow trimester system from this academic year.The varsity offers MBA in Airline and Airport Management, Banking and Insurance, International Business, Software Project and Quality, IPR and Technology, Retail and Supply Chain, Entrepreneurship and Family Business, Hospital and Health Care and Brand and CRM.By introducing trimester system, which is being followed by renowned IIMs, the varsity feels that the students will be better equipped for jobs.According to Vice- Chancellor Prof R Radhakrishnan, the students would be wasting around four months in the semester pattern ie. their annual holidays for two years.
‘‘They can learn more through trimester system since they do not waste time. They get more exposure and will be better qualified. Moreover, they could spend more time in conferences, group discussions and industrial visits,’’ he noted.He further said that the core curriculum will be the ability to communicate, analyse situations and take decisions using qualitative and quantitative factors, develop a holistic view of the different functional area and the business environment.To note, all these MBA programmes will be conducted at select colleges affiliated to the university and will be shifted to the varsity’s own premises in the second year.Other colleges affiliated to the university would also follow the trimester system soon, the VC said.
