Irugur will be developed at Rs 30 cr

Irugur, one of the biggest town panchayats with over 50,000 population, will be developed at a cost of Rs 30 crore under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) scheme.Rural Industries Minister Pongalur N Palanisamy, who disclosed this while inaugurating two new bus services at Irugur, which will ply between Irugur and Idayarpalayam (route No 114) and Pappampatty and Gandhipuram (route No 69-C), said Irugur’s basic facilities like underground drainage, road and drinking water supply would be improved.According to Palanisamy, the places surrounding the city within five-km radius like Veerakeralam, Kalapatty, Kurichi, Kuniamuthur and Irugur would be benefited under the JNNURM scheme.

He also said that the Irugur railway bridge work would begin soon. The district would also get 380 new buses this year, the minister said adding that out of the total 5,500 new buses bought for the state 300 were allotted to Coimbatore last year.He remarked that in the state, divided into seven transport regions, as many as 17,500 buses are operated and 1.2 crore passengers use them everyday.Managing Director of Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation, Coimbatore, Jaganathan, General Manager Ponraj, MLA S Mani and Irugur Town panchayat chairman Chandran were also present.
