Corp bus instead of Nilgiris express
A State Transport Corporation bus waits at the Coimbatore Junction for Chennai- bound passengers following the cancellation of the Nilgiris Express on Wednesday. The cancellation of a major train emanating from here caused hardship to the passengers.Following derailment of a train at the Chennai Central Yard, the Southern Railways cancelled Chennai- Central Erode Yercaud Express (train No 6669) and Chennai Central-Mettupalayam Nilgiri Express (train no 2671) on Tuesday.
Consequently, it announced cancellation of Erode-Chennai Yercaud Express (train no 6670), Mettupalayam-Chennai Nilgiri Express (train no 2672) and Chennai Central-Coimbatore and Coimbatore-Chennai Central Kovai Expresses (train no 2675\2676) due to the non-arrival of pairing trains. As most of the passengers could come to know of the cancellation of the Nilgiri Express only on reaching the Coimbatore Junction, they were at a loss to know what to do. However, the authorities have arranged for pick up by the State Transport Corporation buses from the railway junction to Chennai thus avoiding any major inconvenience. However, a number of passengers refused to travel by bus.
Passengers bound for Tirupur, travelling in the Nagarcoil- Coimbatore Fast Passenger, resorted to a rail roko at Peelamedu railway station on Wednesday night. They were agitated over the regular detention of the train for nearly an hour at Peelamedu station for loading cargo. Nearly 60 passengers squatted on the track. On seeing police most of them ran away. Police arrested five persons. As a result of the agitation the traffic on the Coimbatore-Erode section was briefly paralysed.
