Farmer's market soon at Kotagiri and Gudalur
Udhagamandalam: Farmers’ markets will be established soon at Kotagiri and Gudalur, according to the Nilgiris Collector Santosh K.Misra.He told media persons on Friday that a suitable site had been identified at Kotagiri. A suitable place at Gudalur was in the process of being identified. The markets were likely to start functioning before the end of the year. The farmers’ markets in Coonoor and Udhagamandalam were functioning well. About 37 tonnes of vegetables were sold daily.
A sum of Rs. 3 crore had been earmarked for constructing taluk offices at Pandhalur and Kundah. Work was expected to commence soon, he said.Since the system of calling for monthly tenders for supplying eggs for the noon meal scheme had been misused by some of the suppliers, tenders were now being called for every week.Since there were numerous complaints about the way in which many of the roads within Udhagamandalam Municipality had been repaired recently, the authorities concerned had been asked to withhold payment to the contractors. He added that the road related problems here could be tackled to a significant extent if work on repairing the Mettupalayam-Udhagamandalam-Gudalur national highway was completed without delay.
