India prouded boz of Coimbatore woman
A city woman karateka has made India proud by winning a silver medal in the recently held 16th KOI Karate World Cup at Sports Palace, Varna in Bulgaria.Sensei Sonika Vickraman, who was a member of the six-member Indian contigent, won the silver medal in the Senior Women Category at the Kata (imaginary fighting) event organised by Kobe Osaka International (KOI), from July 27-29.Displaying the medal she won, Sonika told reporters here today that the first prize was bagged by Russian and the third by an Iranian.
The annual tournament attracted more than 1200 entries from 42 countries, where 176 female karatekas participated.Sonika, the first Indian to win an International medal-- bronze--in the last edition of world cup held at Greece, said that she, a student of Alan-Thilak Karate School International, was sponsored by local industrialists and traders.Sensei Neil Moses, who was selected as the Team leader for the India contingent, reached quarter finals in the men's kata event.Sensei Paul Vickraman and Sensei Rajasekar have scored more than 95 per cent in the referee examination and have been selected in the referee panel of the competition, Sonika said.
