Meeting boycotted
The Kurichi-Vellalore Pollution Prevention Action Committee boycotted a meeting with the officials and elected representatives of the Coimbatore Corporation on Monday, insisting that the civic body’s garbage yard should be shifted from Vellalore.The Corporation called the committee office-bearers for a meeting to discuss the problems they faced because of smoke from burning garbage dumps and flies from the yard.The Corporation officials had arranged for a presentation on its solid waste management programme under which the yard would be used for landfill method of garbage disposal.Committee secretary K.S. Mohan said the residents did not want to sit through any presentation and contended that a solution to the problem lay in only shifting the yard.
