Spastic Trust's certificate course

The Coimbatore Spastic Trust has now taken up the role of a study centre for a certificate course in “Management of Children with Problems in Learning in the Regular classroom.”Offered by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s H.B College of Communication and Management, Bangalore, the course is a step towards equipping teachers in normal schools for inclusive education.This course will help teachers in normal schools to identify children with learning disability, attention deficit disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, pervasive developmental disorder, slow learning and autism.

It will also provide them with teaching techniques to give special care in the regular classroom for these children. Consisting of three theory papers, the course will also cover a general overview of learning disorders in children and skills for general education. There will be two practical examinations.The candidates will have to submit three projects on three different disabilities and three teaching aids. There will be five assignments in all. The course will be open to teachers from the regular stream.


However, seats will be allotted for teachers from special education background too, Prema V.Joseph, Managing Trustee, says. The duration of the course is one year. The medium of instruction would be English. Graduates with minimum one year of teaching experience could apply. The total number of seats available is 20, out of which five would be for teachers from the special education background.The distance education programme would start in September. It would include contact classes. Admission would be on till August 25.
