Police met for traffic management
The Additional Director-General of Police, State Traffic Planning Cell, Chennai, K.R. Shyam Sunder held a meeting at Coimabatore to review traffic management works. He had discussions with Commissioner of Police C.K. Gandhirajan, Deputy Commissioners of Police P. Sugumar (Law and Order), S. Manoharan (Traffic) and S.V. Karuppasamy (Headquarters) besides officials representing the Corporation and Highways.
On bad road engineering aspects hampering the free flow of traffic with special reference to the battered stretch of the Tiruchi Road from Bypass road junction to Stock Exchange, the ADGP exhorted the police to work in close co-ordination with the agencies concerned such as highways and with Corporation for the other roads within the City.To control the accident rate, the ADGP exhorted the police officers to expedite measures in co-ordination with the Transport Department for the cancellation of the driving licence of the vehicles involved in rash and negligent driving causing death and drunken driving.
He also stressed the need for initiating action on the permits of vehicles involved in accidents.Replying to a request from the City Police for three highway patrol vehicles to monitor traffic on arterial roads, ADGP assured to take up the representation with the State Government.Mr. Shyamsunder also said that a proposal at Rs. 4 crore for equipping the traffic signals with surveillance cameras to prosecute the violators was under active consideration of the Government.He also visited the control room and reviewed the facilities available for bringing in new infrastructure.
