27851 family cards ready for distribution

District Collector Neeraj Mittal has announced that 27,851 family cards under the Public Distribution System (PDS) have been printed and kept ready for distribution out of the 61,525 applications received till date.The cards have been despatched to the respective taluk supply officers and assistant rationing officers. So far 15,510 PDS cards have been distributed while the remaining 12,341 will be distributed at the functions to be attended by the Ministers and elected representations at grievance day meetings.

The public need to pay only Rs. 5 towards the PDS family card. Cards were being distributed through the supply offices in the respective area. Those desirous of ascertaining whether their family cards have been printed could approach the nearest ration shop and on furnishing their application details could get a token from the shop assistant with the rubber stamp of the shop affixed on it. The tokens could be produced at the supply offices.The public have been asked to desist from middlemen, agents and brokers. In the event of being approached by middlemen, they could contact the control room at phone number 95422-2300569 or the cellular phone number of the District Supply officer 94426-02121.

The City Police Commissioner, C.K. Gandhirajan has clamped regulatory orders under Section 41 of the Madras City Police Act in all the 15 police station limits till the midnight of September 11. The order prevents public assemblies, processions, dharnas and demonstrations. The regulatory orders are aimed at averting breach of public peace and tranquillity by persons belonging to different political, social, religious and economical ideologies.
