Survey job for Coimbatore regional office-Textiles

The Regional Office of the Textile Commissioner-Coimbatore is in process to find out the number of workers from other states to facilitate the manpower availability to the textile units from states such as Bihar and Orissa.The Deputy Director in-charge, D. Bandopadhyay, said that the textile associations were giving their suggestions and requirements for the program. A survey was also going on to find out the number of workers from States such as Orissa, West Bengal and Bihar employed in the textile units in Tamil Nadu.

Over 25,000 are already working in the textile units in Coimbatore, Karur, Gobichettipalayam, Vellakoil and Erode,” Mr. Bandopadhyay said.“The module will aim at streamlining the movement of workers from other States to Tamil Nadu and also ensuring that the textile industry here is not hit by manpower shortage,” he added.After preparing a draft of the module, the details would be discussed with the other government departments such as labor and the program would be taken up jointly with the respective State Governments.The regional office met with the textile associations in the State to get their views on the need for manpower, training and facilitating worker availability here.The survey of the processing units in Erode and Perundurai is complete. A similar survey will be conducted for the more than one lakh powerlooms in the state.
