All party rally on Sep-13th against 'Lalu'

An all-party rally would be organised here on Thursday protesting the "attitude" of Union Railway Minister Lalu Prasad on the Salem Rail Division issue and seeking its inauguration as scheduled on September 14.According to Salem Railway Division Struggle Co-ordination Committee sources, leaders of different parties met here last evening and discussed the talks Kerala Chief Minister, V S Achuthanandan and MPs had with Prasad in New Delhi.

Though Kerala MPs have no opposition towards Salem division, they wanted Coimbatore to remain in Palakkad division, they said. The rally would be organised on September 13 to protest the "attitude of Lalu", who appeared to be favouring Kerala and its politicians, and also seeking not to change the jurisdiction of the new division, the sources said. The rally would converge at the railway station, where workers of all political parties would air their views.

Meanwhile, 12 law college students were continuing with their fast-unto-death agitation for the second day today in the city, demanding inauguration of the division as scheduled on September 14, police said.Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi and Union minister of state for Railways R Velu have stated that the division, which already has started functioning, would be formally declared open on Sept 14.
